Stephenson 2-18 is not located in the Milky Way. It is a very large and luminous red supergiant star located in the Stephenson 2 open cluster in the constellation Scutum. This star is not part of the Milky Way, but rather belongs to the Canis Major Overdensity, a companion dwarf galaxy of the Milky Way.
