The beginning of human space exploration is often marked by the launch of Soviet Union's Sputnik Satellite on October 4, 1957. Before this event, there were limited efforts in research related to space; mostly theoretical. After the successful Sputnik mission, United States and Soviet Union started investing heavily in Space Exploration, competing against each other.
