Shooting stars, also known as meteors, can have a wide range of speeds as they enter Earth's atmosphere. The speed of a meteor depends on several factors, including its size, mass, and the angle at which it enters the atmosphere. Typically, meteors can travel at speeds ranging from a few tens of kilometers per second (km/s) up to several hundred km/s.
As a reference point, a common speed range for slow shooting stars is around 11 km/s to 20 km/s. However, some meteors can be much faster, reaching speeds of over 70 km/s. These are often associated with larger meteors or fragments from comets and asteroids.
