  • Will the Sun Explode? Understanding Supernovae and Stellar Lifecycles
    The sun, our local star, is not massive enough to go supernova. Stars that go supernova need to have a mass at least eight times that of the Sun. The Sun's mass is only about 330,000 times that of Earth, far below the threshold for going supernova.

    So, while the Sun will one day exhaust its hydrogen fuel and become a white dwarf, it will not go supernova.
