The term "sun" is used to refer to the star that is the centre of our own solar system. However, all stars are essentially the same type of celestial body, and they all produce light and heat through nuclear fusion reactions in their cores.

Therefore, even though stars in other galaxies are not part of our own solar system, they are still suns in their own right.
