While Alpha Centauri is the closest star system to our own, it is not known to contain any planets suitable for hosting life. However, Alpha Centauri could host planets beyond the current detection limits. Additionally, there may be habitable planets orbiting the smaller red dwarf stars, Proxima Centauri and Barnard's Star, also part of the system. Ongoing surveys aim to detect and characterize possible planets in the Alpha Centauri system, making it a compelling nearby location for the search for extraterrestrial life.
