In 2016, astronomers announced the discovery of an Earth-sized planet orbiting Proxima Centauri, named Proxima Centauri b. This planet is located in the star's habitable zone, the region where liquid water could exist on its surface.
In 2021, astronomers reported the detection of a signal in the radial velocity data of Alpha Centauri B that could indicate the presence of a super-Earth (a planet larger than Earth but smaller than Neptune) orbiting the star.
