  • Sun's Atmosphere Temperature: Why It's Hotter Than You Think
The assumption is incorrect. The Sun's surface atmosphere, known as the photosphere, is actually cooler than its interior. The photosphere has an average temperature of about 5,778 K (5,505 °C or 9,941 °F), while the Sun's core is at an estimated temperature of 27 million degrees Fahrenheit (15 million degrees Celsius).
