The Northern Lights, also known as aurora borealis, are a natural light display in the sky, primarily visible at high latitude regions (around the Arctic and Antarctic). They are not fireworks, but rather a result of the collision between electrically charged particles released from the magnetosphere with the upper atmosphere (thermosphere).
