  • Black Hole Formation: How Mergers and Stellar Collapses Create Supermassive Giants
    * Merger of two supermassive black holes: This is the most common way for massive black holes to form. When two supermassive black holes merge, they create a single, more massive black hole. This process can occur when two galaxies merge or when two black holes within the same galaxy come into contact with each other.

    * Collapse of a massive star: When a massive star dies, it collapses under its own gravity and forms a black hole. If the star is massive enough, it will form a supermassive black hole.

    * Accretion of matter: Massive black holes can also grow by accreting matter from their surroundings. This can occur through the accretion of gas and dust from the interstellar medium or through the merger of smaller black holes with the massive black hole.
