  • Understanding Conflict: Internal vs. External Types
The two main types of conflict are:

    1. Internal Conflict: This type of conflict takes place within a character's mind. It's a struggle between opposing desires, beliefs, or values. Examples include:

    * Man vs. Self: A character grappling with a difficult decision, overcoming a personal flaw, or battling their own inner demons.

    * Moral Dilemma: A character facing a situation where they must choose between two conflicting values or principles.

    2. External Conflict: This type of conflict involves a struggle between a character and an outside force. It can be physical, social, or environmental. Examples include:

    * Man vs. Man: A character facing opposition from another character, whether it's a rival, an antagonist, or someone with conflicting interests.

    * Man vs. Nature: A character struggling against the forces of nature, such as a storm, a wild animal, or a harsh environment.

    * Man vs. Society: A character fighting against the norms, laws, or expectations of their society.

It's important to note that these categories aren't mutually exclusive. A story can feature multiple types of conflict simultaneously, creating a complex and engaging narrative.
