  • Understanding the 7 Tarsal Bones: Anatomy & Function
    The 7 tarsal bones are:

    1. Talus: This bone sits above the calcaneus (heel bone) and forms the ankle joint with the tibia and fibula.

    2. Calcaneus: This is the heel bone, the largest tarsal bone.

    3. Navicular: Located on the medial side of the foot, it connects the talus to the three cuneiform bones.

    4. Cuboid: Situated on the lateral side of the foot, it connects the calcaneus to the fourth and fifth metatarsals.

    5. Medial Cuneiform: One of three cuneiform bones, located on the medial side of the foot between the navicular and the first metatarsal.

    6. Intermediate Cuneiform: The middle cuneiform bone, located between the navicular and the second metatarsal.

    7. Lateral Cuneiform: The last of the cuneiform bones, located on the lateral side of the foot between the navicular and the third metatarsal.

These seven bones, along with the five metatarsals, form the structure of the foot, providing support, stability, and range of motion.
