  • Russian Whale Rescue: A Story of Scientific Intervention and Safe Release
Creams, massage and police escort: how Russian whales were freed

In November 2018, a group of 12 beluga whales and 88 orcas were trapped in the ice near the Sea of Okhotsk in the Russian Far East. The whales were unable to move freely and were at risk of dying.

A team of Russian scientists and rescuers worked tirelessly to free the whales. They used a variety of methods, including:

    * Creams and ointments: The rescuers applied special creams and ointments to the whales' skin to protect them from the cold water and ice.

    * Massage: The rescuers massaged the whales' muscles to help them stay relaxed and prevent them from going into shock.

    * Police escort: The rescuers used police escort boats to create a safe path for the whales to swim to open water.

After working for several days, the rescuers were able to free all of the whales. The whales were then released into the open sea, where they were able to swim freely and safely.

The rescue of the whales was a major success and demonstrated the dedication and skill of the Russian scientists and rescuers. It is also a reminder of the importance of protecting these amazing creatures.
