Same-Sex Marriage Longevity: Research Shows Comparable Stability to Heterosexual Marriages
Research suggests that same-sex marriages have similar longevity rates compared to heterosexual marriages. A 2019 study published in the Journal of Marriage and Family analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau and found that the divorce rate for same-sex couples was comparable to that of heterosexual couples. Moreover, a longitudinal study conducted by the University of California, Berkeley, found that same-sex couples reported high levels of relationship satisfaction and commitment over time, indicating long-term stability in their relationships. These findings challenge traditional assumptions and provide evidence that same-sex marriages can be just as enduring and successful as heterosexual marriages.
