Indigenous-Owned Businesses Creating Better Outcomes for Employees

A new study from the University of British Columbia has found that Indigenous-owned businesses create better outcomes for their employees than non-Indigenous-owned businesses. The study, which was conducted in collaboration with the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, surveyed over 1,000 employees of Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses across Canada.

The results of the study showed that employees of Indigenous-owned businesses were more likely to be engaged in their work, satisfied with their jobs, and feel like they were part of a community. They were also less likely to experience discrimination and harassment.

In addition, the study found that Indigenous-owned businesses were more likely to provide training and development opportunities for their employees, and to pay them higher wages.

"Our study shows that Indigenous-owned businesses are not only creating economic opportunities for Indigenous peoples, but they are also creating better workplaces for all employees," said lead researcher Dr. Sarah Morales.

The study's findings are consistent with previous research that has shown that Indigenous-owned businesses have a positive impact on the local economy and community. For example, a study by the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association found that Indigenous-owned businesses create jobs, generate revenue, and stimulate economic activity in their communities.

The new study adds to the growing body of evidence that Indigenous-owned businesses are a force for good in the Canadian economy. By creating better workplaces for their employees, Indigenous-owned businesses are helping to build a more inclusive and prosperous society.
