Abstract:
The closure of groups and services can have a significant impact on vulnerable populations, exacerbating existing challenges and barriers they face. This research aims to investigate the consequences of such closures, focusing on the experiences of vulnerable individuals and communities. By examining how the loss of essential support systems affects well-being, access to resources, and overall resilience, this study seeks to inform future policies and practices related to group and service provision for vulnerable populations.
Methodology:
The research will employ a qualitative approach, utilizing semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and observations to collect in-depth data from vulnerable individuals and service providers. The study will target a diverse range of groups and services that cater to vulnerable populations, such as those affected by poverty, chronic illnesses, disabilities, mental health issues, and other social vulnerabilities. Data analysis will involve thematic analysis and narrative inquiry to identify common themes and patterns that emerge from the participants' experiences.
Key Research Areas:
1. Impact on Well-being: The study will examine the psychological, emotional, and social effects of group and service closures on vulnerable individuals, considering how they cope with the loss and adapt to changing circumstances.
2. Access to Resources: This research component will explore how closures impact vulnerable populations' ability to access essential services, support, and resources, examining barriers and challenges encountered in the absence of these services.
3. Social Isolation: The study will investigate the potential for increased social isolation and loneliness resulting from group and service closures, considering the significance of social networks and community engagement for vulnerable individuals.
4. Resilience Strategies: The research will explore the strategies that vulnerable individuals and communities employ to build resilience and adapt to the changes brought by group and service closures, shedding light on coping mechanisms and sources of strength.
Significance of Findings:
The findings from this research will contribute to a deeper understanding of the consequences of group and service closures on vulnerable populations, highlighting the disproportionate impact on their well-being, resource accessibility, and social networks. The study's outcomes will inform policy-making, service planning, and community-based interventions to ensure vulnerable individuals continue to receive essential support and services. By focusing on the voices of those affected, this research aims to advocate for inclusive policies that prioritize the needs and rights of vulnerable populations.
