  • Pell Grant Verification: Important Update for Recipients
The Department of Education recently announced that approximately 1.3 million Federal Pell Grant recipients will need to verify their identities or they will not receive their grant funds. If you are a Pell Grant recipient, you will need to follow the instructions provided by your school to verify your identity. If you do not verify your identity, you will not receive your Pell Grant funds.

You can verify your identity by submitting one of the following documents:

    • A valid driver's license or state-issued identification card

    • A valid passport

    • A military identification card

    • A permanent resident card

    • An employment authorization document

    • A tribal identification card

If you do not have any of these documents, you may be able to verify your identity by submitting two of the following documents:

    • A birth certificate

    • A Social Security card

    • A marriage certificate

    • A divorce decree

    • A court order

    • A utility bill

    • A bank statement

    • A paycheck stub

    • A tax return

If you are unable to submit any of these documents, you may be able to verify your identity by providing a sworn statement.

The deadline to verify your identity is January 25, 2023. If you do not verify your identity by this deadline, you will not receive your Pell Grant funds.
