  • Spin-Drying Greens in a Washing Machine: Risks & Alternatives
Leafy greens should not be spun-dried in a washing machine. While a washing machine can effectively remove excess water, it is designed for laundry and may not be suitable for delicate produce. Using a washing machine's spin cycle to dry leafy greens can cause bruising and damage to their texture, affecting the quality and taste of the greens. The high centrifugal force generated by the spin cycle can also crush and tear the delicate leaves.

Instead of using a washing machine, it is recommended to dry leafy greens gently by hand. This can be done by shaking the greens to remove excess water, then patting them dry with paper towels or using a salad spinner specifically designed for leafy greens. Salad spinners work by gently forcing water droplets off the leaves through centrifugal force, without causing damage to the greens.
