  • Sunlight & Electromagnetic Radiation: Understanding Solar Emissions
The Sun emits all types of electromagnetic radiation, but the most significant type we receive on Earth is visible light.

Here's a breakdown of the Sun's radiation and what we receive:

    * Visible Light: This is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that our eyes can see, responsible for the colors we perceive in the world.

    * Infrared Radiation: We feel this as heat.

    * Ultraviolet Radiation (UV): This is responsible for sunburns, skin cancer, and Vitamin D production.

    * X-rays and Gamma rays: These are emitted in much smaller quantities and are mostly absorbed by Earth's atmosphere.

The Sun's radiation is essential for life on Earth. It provides energy for plants to photosynthesize, warms the planet, and drives weather patterns. However, excessive exposure to certain types of radiation, like UV, can be harmful.
