  • Full Moon vs. Half Moon Brightness: Understanding the Difference
A full moon is about twice as bright as a half moon.

This is because the amount of light we see from the moon depends on the surface area illuminated by the sun and reflected towards us.

    * A full moon has the entire face illuminated.

    * A half moon has only half of its face illuminated.

Therefore, a full moon reflects approximately twice the amount of light as a half moon.
