  • Moon Orbit Duration: Sidereal vs. Synodic Months - Earth's Lunar Cycle
The moon orbits Earth approximately every 27.3 days. This is called a sidereal month.

However, it takes about 29.5 days for the moon to go through its complete cycle of phases (from new moon to full moon and back to new moon), which is called a synodic month.
