  • Understanding the Monthly New Moon in Our Solar System
The event that happens about once every month in the solar system is the New Moon.

While the Moon's phases are technically caused by the changing angles of sunlight reflecting off the Moon as it orbits Earth, the New Moon specifically occurs when the Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun. This alignment means the sunlit side of the Moon is facing away from Earth, making it appear completely dark from our perspective.
