  • Lunar Cycle: How Long Does the Moon Orbit Earth?
The Moon makes a complete journey around Earth approximately once every 27.3 days. This is known as the sidereal month.

However, it takes 29.5 days for the Moon to complete a cycle from new moon to new moon, known as the synodic month. This difference is due to the Earth's movement around the Sun.
