History of Solar Cells: Charles Fritts & The Dawn of Solar Energy
The first solar cell was created by Charles Fritts in 1883. He used a selenium plate coated with a thin layer of gold to achieve this.
While Fritts' creation was significant, it was inefficient and expensive to produce. It wasn't until 1954 that Bell Laboratories created the first practical silicon solar cell, paving the way for the widespread use of solar energy we see today.
