Ceres, the largest asteroid in the asteroid belt, is about 946 km (588 miles) in diameter. This makes it larger than the dwarf planet Pluto and about one-third the diameter of our Moon (which is 3,474 km).
While Ceres is a giant among asteroids, there are other large asteroids too. Here are some examples:
* Vesta: About 525 km (326 miles) in diameter
* Pallas: About 544 km (338 miles) in diameter
* Hygiea: About 430 km (267 miles) in diameter
So, while our Moon is quite large, some asteroids can be surprisingly big, even approaching the size of our own natural satellite.
