Here's why:
* Extreme Temperature: The sun's surface temperature is about 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit (5,500 degrees Celsius). No known material can withstand those temperatures.
* Radiation: The sun emits immense amounts of radiation, including X-rays and ultraviolet light, which would be lethal to humans.
* Gravity: The sun's immense gravity would make it impossible to escape its pull.
While we haven't been *on* the sun, we have sent spacecraft to study it from a safe distance. The Parker Solar Probe is currently the closest spacecraft to the sun, collecting data about its atmosphere.
