    A solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes directly between the Sun and Earth, blocking the Sun's light from reaching a portion of Earth. Here's a breakdown:

    * Alignment: For a solar eclipse to occur, the Sun, Moon, and Earth must be perfectly aligned in a straight line.

    * Moon's Shadow: The Moon casts two shadows: the umbra (the darkest, central part) and the penumbra (the lighter, outer part).

    * Total Solar Eclipse: When the Moon's umbra falls on Earth, it creates a total solar eclipse. This means the Sun is completely blocked out, and the sky becomes very dark.

    * Partial Solar Eclipse: When the Moon's penumbra falls on Earth, it creates a partial solar eclipse. This means only a portion of the Sun is blocked out.

    * Annular Solar Eclipse: This happens when the Moon is farther away from Earth, and its apparent size is slightly smaller than the Sun. In this case, the Moon doesn't completely cover the Sun, leaving a bright ring of sunlight visible around the Moon.

    Important note: Never look directly at the Sun, even during a partial or annular solar eclipse, as this can cause severe eye damage. Always use proper eye protection like certified eclipse glasses or solar viewers.
