  • Centripetal Force: Direction and Explanation - Physics Explained
    Centripetal force always acts towards the center of the circular path that the object is moving in.

    Think of it this way:

    * Centripetal means "center-seeking".

    * The force is what keeps the object from flying off in a straight line (due to inertia) and instead forces it to move in a circle.

    Imagine swinging a ball on a string. The string is pulling the ball inwards towards your hand (the center of the circle) – that's the centripetal force.
