  • Understanding Light Interaction with Objects: Reflection, Absorption & Transmission
Here are four possible things that can happen when light travels in a straight path until it hits an object:

    1. Reflection: The light bounces off the object. This is what allows us to see things. Think of a mirror reflecting your image.

    2. Absorption: The object absorbs the light energy. This is why dark objects feel hotter in the sun than light ones – they absorb more light energy.

    3. Transmission: The light passes through the object. This is why we can see through windows. Some materials, like glass, are more transparent than others.

    4. Refraction: The light bends as it passes from one medium to another. This is why a straw in a glass of water looks bent. The speed of light changes as it moves from air to water.

Let me know if you'd like a more detailed explanation of any of these!
