  • Understanding Velocity: Speed and Direction Explained
To describe velocity, you need two things:

    1. Speed: This tells you how fast an object is moving. It's the magnitude of the velocity.

    2. Direction: This tells you which way the object is moving. It's the vector component of the velocity.

So, for example, you might say "the car is traveling at 60 miles per hour north". This means the car's speed is 60 miles per hour and its direction is north.
