  • Newton's Second Law of Motion: Understanding Force (F=ma)
The equation for mechanical force, F = ma, is attributed to Sir Isaac Newton. It is part of his second law of motion, which states that the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on it and inversely proportional to its mass.

While the equation is often referred to as Newton's Second Law, it's important to note that Newton wasn't the first to study motion and force. Ancient Greek philosophers and scientists, like Aristotle, had theories about motion. However, Newton was the first to formulate the precise mathematical relationship between force, mass, and acceleration.
