  • Understanding Force Application: Contact & Other Types
There are actually more than two ways to apply a force to an object. Here are some common examples:

    1. Contact Forces:

    * Pushing/Pulling: Direct contact with the object, like pushing a door open or pulling a wagon.

    * Friction: A force that opposes motion between surfaces in contact, like rubbing your hands together.

    * Normal Force: The force exerted by a surface perpendicular to the object in contact with it, like a table supporting a book.

    * Tension: Force transmitted through a stretched object, like pulling on a rope.

    2. Non-Contact Forces:

    * Gravity: The force of attraction between any two objects with mass.

    * Electromagnetism: Forces associated with electric charges and magnetic fields. This includes:

    * Electric force: Force between charged objects.

    * Magnetic force: Force between magnets or between moving charged objects.

So, while you can categorize forces as contact or non-contact, there are many specific types of forces within each category.
