  • Understanding Friction: Types and How It Affects Motion
The resistance to motion of an object being pulled over a surface is called friction.

There are two main types of friction:

    * Static friction: This is the force that prevents an object from moving when it is at rest. It acts in the opposite direction of the applied force.

    * Kinetic friction: This is the force that opposes the motion of an object that is already moving. It acts in the opposite direction of the object's velocity.
