    What is Matter?

    Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. It's the "stuff" that makes up everything in the universe, from the tiniest atom to the largest star.

    Here's a breakdown of key features:

    1. Mass: This refers to the amount of "stuff" an object contains. We often think of it as how heavy something is, but it's more fundamental than that. Mass is what gives objects inertia, meaning they resist changes in motion.

    2. Volume: This refers to the amount of space an object occupies. You can think of it as the object's "size".

    States of Matter: Matter can exist in different states, depending on the arrangement of its particles and the forces between them:

    * Solid: Particles are closely packed and vibrate in fixed positions. They have a definite shape and volume.

    * Liquid: Particles are more loosely packed than solids, allowing them to flow and take the shape of their container. They have a definite volume but not a definite shape.

    * Gas: Particles are widely spaced and move freely, expanding to fill their container. They have neither a definite shape nor volume.

    * Plasma: A superheated state of matter where atoms are stripped of their electrons, resulting in a charged, ionized gas. This is the most abundant form of matter in the universe.

    Composition of Matter: Matter is made up of tiny particles called atoms. Atoms are the fundamental building blocks of everything around us. They combine to form molecules, which are groups of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds.

    Examples of Matter: Everything you see, touch, and smell is matter. This includes things like:

    * Rocks

    * Trees

    * Water

    * Air

    * Your body

    What is NOT Matter?

    Things like light, heat, sound, and thoughts are not matter. They are forms of energy, which do not have mass or occupy space.
