  • Newton's First Law: Understanding Inertia and Unbalanced Forces
An object at rest will remain at rest unless an unbalanced force acts upon it.

    Here's why:

    * Newton's First Law of Motion: This law states that an object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion at a constant speed and direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

    * Balanced forces: If the forces acting on an object are balanced (equal in magnitude and opposite in direction), they cancel each other out. This means the object's state of motion doesn't change.

    * Unbalanced forces: When forces are unbalanced, there's a net force in one direction. This net force causes the object to accelerate, meaning it will either start moving, stop moving, or change direction.
