  • Bicycle Speed Control: Understanding Acceleration, Braking & Direction
You can change the velocity of a bicycle in two main ways:

    1. Changing the Speed:

    * Pedaling: Applying force to the pedals increases the bicycle's speed.

    * Braking: Applying the brakes decreases the bicycle's speed.

    * Gravity: Going downhill increases speed, while going uphill decreases speed.

    * Air resistance: The faster you go, the more air resistance you encounter, which slows you down.

    2. Changing the Direction:

    * Steering: Turning the handlebars changes the direction of the bicycle.

    * Leaning: Leaning into a turn helps you maintain balance and navigate curves.

Important Note: Velocity is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude (speed) and direction. Therefore, changing either the speed or the direction will change the velocity of the bicycle.
