  • Velocity vs. Speed: Understanding Direction in Physics
The rate at which an object covers distance in a particular direction is called velocity.

    Here's why:

    * Speed tells you how fast an object is moving, but it doesn't tell you the direction.

    * Velocity is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude (the speed) and direction.

For example, a car traveling at 60 miles per hour is moving at a certain speed. However, if we say the car is traveling at 60 miles per hour north, then we are describing its velocity.
