  • Understanding Acceleration: Calculation and Formula
    Acceleration is calculated by dividing the change in velocity by the time it takes for that change to occur.

    In simpler terms:

    * Figure out how much the velocity changes: This means subtracting the initial velocity from the final velocity.

    * Divide that change in velocity by the time it took: This gives you the rate at which the velocity changed, which is the acceleration.

    For example, if a car speeds up from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5 seconds, its acceleration would be:

    * Change in velocity: 60 mph - 0 mph = 60 mph

    * Time: 5 seconds

    * Acceleration: 60 mph / 5 seconds = 12 mph/second
