  • Understanding Friction: Types, Causes, and Effects
The force that opposes the motion of an object moving on a surface is friction.

There are two main types of friction:

    * Static Friction: This force acts on an object at rest, preventing it from moving. It's the force you need to overcome to start an object moving.

    * Kinetic Friction: This force acts on an object that's already moving, slowing it down.

Friction is caused by the microscopic interactions between the surfaces of the object and the surface it's moving on. These interactions create a resistance to motion.
