  • Understanding Forces on a Hanging Object: Gravity & Tension
The two main forces acting on a hanging object are:

    1. Gravity: This force pulls the object downwards towards the center of the Earth. It's also known as the object's weight.

    2. Tension: This is the force exerted by the rope, string, or whatever is holding the object up. It acts upwards, counteracting gravity.

These forces are in equilibrium when the object is stationary (not moving up or down).
