  • Understanding Your Car's Fuel Gauge: What It Actually Measures
    A gas gauge tells you none of those things.

    Here's what a gas gauge tells you:

    * Fuel Level: It shows how much fuel is remaining in your vehicle's tank.

    Let's break down why it doesn't indicate velocity, mass, or acceleration:

    * Velocity: Velocity is the speed and direction of an object. A gas gauge doesn't measure how fast you're going or which way you're heading.

    * Mass: Mass is the amount of matter in an object. While the amount of fuel affects the car's mass, the gas gauge doesn't directly measure it.

    * Acceleration: Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity. The gas gauge doesn't measure how quickly your speed is changing.

    To measure these factors, you would need different instruments:

    * Speedometer: Measures velocity (speed).

    * Scale: Measures mass (weight).

    * Accelerometer: Measures acceleration.
