  • Understanding Freefall: When Gravity is the Only Force
Gravity is the only force acting on an object in freefall.

    Here's what that means:

    * No other forces: Freefall implies that no other forces, like air resistance, friction, or thrust, are acting on the object.

    * Constant acceleration: In freefall, the only force acting on the object is gravity, which causes a constant acceleration due to gravity (approximately 9.8 m/s² on Earth).

    Important Note:

    * Even though we often think of objects falling straight down when we say "freefall," it can also include objects moving horizontally, like a projectile. As long as the only force acting on it is gravity, it's in freefall.

    * Freefall doesn't necessarily mean the object is moving downward. It could be moving upward, or even moving horizontally at a constant speed (if it's already moving horizontally). The key is that gravity is the only force acting on it.
