  • Velocity vs. Speed: Understanding Direction in Physics
The speed of an object in a particular direction is called its velocity.

    Here's why:

    * Speed is a scalar quantity, meaning it only has magnitude (how fast something is moving).

    * Velocity is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude (speed) and direction.

So, while "speed" tells you how fast something is going, "velocity" tells you both how fast and in what direction it's going.
