  • States of Matter: Molecular Speed Ranked (Slowest to Fastest)
Here are the four states of matter, from slowest to fastest molecular speed:

    1. Solid: Molecules in solids are tightly packed and vibrate in fixed positions. They have the slowest molecular speed.

    2. Liquid: Molecules in liquids are more loosely packed than solids and can move around each other. They have a higher molecular speed than solids.

    3. Gas: Molecules in gases are far apart and move rapidly in random directions. They have a much higher molecular speed than liquids.

    4. Plasma: Plasma is a superheated gas where electrons are stripped from atoms, creating a highly ionized state. This state has the fastest molecular speed due to the high energy and free movement of charged particles.

Important Note: While plasma technically has the fastest molecular speed, it's often considered a distinct state of matter rather than just a highly energized gas.
