  • Understanding Grounding: Why Objects Equalize with Earth's Potential
A grounded electrically conductive object is forced to take the same potential as the Earth.

    Here's why:

    * Grounding: Grounding is the process of connecting an object to the Earth's surface. This connection provides a low-resistance path for electrical current to flow.

    * Electrical Potential: Electrical potential refers to the amount of potential energy that a charged object possesses. The Earth is considered to have a potential of zero, acting as a reference point for electrical potential.

    * Forced to Take the Same Potential: When a conductive object is grounded, any excess charge on the object will flow to the Earth, effectively equalizing the potential of the object to that of the Earth (which is zero).

In essence, grounding forces an object to have the same electrical potential as the Earth, making it electrically neutral.
