  • Understanding Acceleration: How Force Changes Object Direction
The change in an object's direction due to a force is called acceleration.

    Here's why:

    * Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.

    * Velocity includes both speed and direction.

    * Therefore, if a force causes a change in direction, it also changes the object's velocity, resulting in acceleration.

While we often think of acceleration as speeding up, it also includes slowing down (deceleration) and changing direction.
