  • Acceleration: Understanding Velocity Changes & Rates
An increase in velocity is called acceleration.

    Here's why:

    * Velocity is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude (speed) and direction.

    * Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity over time.

    * Therefore, if the velocity is increasing, it means the object is accelerating.

Important Note: Acceleration doesn't always mean speeding up. If the direction of motion changes, even if the speed remains constant, there is still acceleration.
