  • Understanding Friction: Types, Causes, and Effects
The force created by the surface of one object rubbing against another object is called friction.

There are two main types of friction:

    * Static friction: This acts on objects at rest, preventing them from moving when a force is applied. It's the force you need to overcome to get an object moving.

    * Kinetic friction: This acts on objects in motion, opposing their movement. It's the force that makes things slow down or stop moving.

Friction is a result of the microscopic irregularities on the surfaces of the objects. These irregularities interlock and create resistance to motion.
