The Nobel Prize in Physics 1981 was awarded to Nicolaas Bloembergen and Arthur Leonard Schawlow "for their contribution to the development of laser spectroscopy" and to Kai Siegbahn "for his contribution to the development of high-resolution electron spectroscopy".
