  • Pressure: Definition, Formula & Units (Force per Area)
    The force exerted on a surface divided by the total area over which it is exerted is called pressure.

    Here's the formula:

    Pressure (P) = Force (F) / Area (A)

    Units:

    * Pressure is typically measured in Pascals (Pa) or pounds per square inch (psi).

    * Force is measured in Newtons (N) or pounds (lb).

    * Area is measured in square meters (m²) or square inches (in²).

    Example:

    If a force of 100 Newtons is applied to a surface with an area of 5 square meters, the pressure exerted on the surface is:

    P = 100 N / 5 m² = 20 Pa
